An outline planning application for the development of up to 380 class C3 dwellings at Filwood House and Verona House, was unanimously approved yesterday at Bristol City Council’s Planning Committee B meeting.

Key issues discussed by the committee, which was Chaired by Cllr Donald Alexander, involved the size and use type of employment space designated for the site, the and the lack of an ability to guarantee affordable housing, given the application currently being only an outline.

Simone Wilding, chief officer and head of planning at Bristol City Council, made the point that the employment space was: “Part of the mixed-use development”, and was therefore compliant with emerging policy, also mentioning Bristol’s ‘stark’ need for housing, which needed to be taken into consideration.

A motion was then forward for approval of the application, Cllrs Alexander, Dudd, Durston, Eddy, Freeman, Maghrabi, Russell, & Townsend all voted in favour of the application, though Cllr Townsend said her vote in favour was given: “Reluctantly”.
