Wandsworth Council has reached a significant milestone by completing the 500th home in its Homes for Wandsworth programme, which aims to build 1,000 high-quality council homes for local residents and workers.
The new development at Putney Vale includes 14 homes with 1, 2, and 3 bedrooms, offered at council rent and prioritised for community members through a Local Lettings Plan. The project also features environmental and community enhancements, including secure bicycle storage, additional parking, a children’s play area, and improved landscaping.
Aydin Dikerdem, cabinet member for housing, highlighted the importance of this milestone in improving the happiness and well-being of local families. The programme is on track to exceed its goal by 2029, with additional developments at Randall Close and Patmore Street contributing 163 more homes.
Homes for Wandsworth is one of London’s most ambitious council homebuilding initiatives, addressing housing shortages and supporting inclusive communities. Beyond providing housing, the programme invests in neighbourhood futures by creating vibrant spaces and enhancing green areas. As the initiative progresses, Wandsworth Council remains dedicated to ensuring residents can live well, stay local, and build their lives in the borough.
