Plans for a warehouse of more than a million sq ft have been revealed in a screening request to Reading Borough Council.
SEGRO has applied to the authority to ask if an environmental impact assessment is needed ahead of a planning application for its plans to build a warehouse for use class B8 (storage & distribution) of more than 1.1m sq ft in Island Road.
In addition SEGRO plans a further industrial building of 81,000 sq ft under class B2 (general industrial). Documents state the B2 use would be that which is associated with a concrete batching plant.
The screening request, prepared by Stantec, reveals SEGRO is seeking a sustainable development with BREEAM Excellent and EPC A+ ratings.
The scheme is planned for a former landfill site to the south of Island Road of more than 29.65 hectares. The land, next to the Reading Borough Council Recycling Centre, sits between Island Road and the homes in Green Park Village (see below).
