The Angmering Sports Hub has been approved by Arun District Council with a budget of £10 million, including £3 million from developer contributions.
Located at Palmer Road Recreation Ground in north Angmering, the site currently features a sports pavilion, grass football pitches, a cricket wicket, and a children’s play area.
The project is a strategic priority in the Local Plan, aiming to establish a community sports hub with a 3G all-weather pitch, improved grass pitches, and upgraded changing facilities. The initiative seeks to address the district’s shortfall in sports and leisure facilities and enhance existing amenities, potentially introducing new activities.
The project depends on land transfer from developer Redrow, as stipulated in the housing development’s planning agreement, to accommodate new pitches. Funding for the sports hub is estimated at £10 million, with £3 million from local housing developments.
Additional funding will be sought through grant applications to sports organisations, though the exact amount is uncertain. The construction timeline will depend on available funding, with phased development as a possibility.
The sports hub will feature a new community building, a full-sized 3G pitch with floodlighting, nine grass football pitches, an artificial turf cricket wicket, a multi-use games area, and a new play area. The community building will offer improved changing rooms, storage, a pitch maintenance equipment store, a flexible hall for various activities, food and beverage options, toilets, and parking for 109 vehicles, including spaces with electric vehicle charging points.
