Groundbreaking has taken place at The Landing in Maidenhead.

The first phase of 429 Build-to-Rent (BTR) homes, 23,000 sq ft of retail, a car park and new public realm, is due for completion in Q4, 2024.

The £155 million Studio Egret West-designed scheme, being delivered by developer HUB and investor Smedvig, will eventually have 104,000 sq ft of offices and a further 15,000 sq ft of retail along with a new garden square across the 3.5-acre town centre site.

Get Living will operate the BTR homes in its biggest UK contract.

Damien Sharkey, managing director of HUB, said: “This is a landmark moment for HUB, and the development we will now deliver is particularly important for Maidenhead, being on a pivotal site for the town and based on designs developed through extremely close consultation with the local community, as well as strong collaboration and support from the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.

“Working alongside Get Living strengthens the development even further, by bringing one of the most experienced and exciting BTR operators in the UK to Maidenhead.”

Cllr David Coppinger, the Royal Borough’s cabinet member for planning, environmental services, said: “The council is driving forwards the much-needed regeneration of Maidenhead town centre, and this ground-breaking is another major milestone, hot on the heels of our railway station forecourt revamp.

“With £155m of private investment, The Landing will provide longer-term benefits including new homes, jobs and facilities that will enhance vibrancy of the town centre, support further major investment and boost the whole community.

“In the short term, the construction work itself will deliver immediate benefits, including opportunities for local sub-contractors, suppliers and construction workers, work placements and talks for local young people supporting careers into the construction industry, and simply the spending power of 350 extra site personnel in town.”
