A full planning application for the demolition of existing buildings, and construction of a new foodstore will be heard at the Bath and North East Somerset Council Planning Committee meeting this Wednesday

The proposed site is based in Keynsham, and currently comprises undeveloped land and storage buildings.

The application has been assigned to the Planning Committee, being described by the chair of the committee as being “A major application and is controversial in all aspects from those opposing and those supporting. It is important that this matter is scrutinised by committee”.

The application has been brought forward by Aldi Stores Limited, with their intention to build a new store upon the site, alongside parking and access arrangements.

Recommendation

The proposal is being recommended for refusal, with the Planning Officer citing a failure to demonstrate: “no severe cumulative impact” on local highway operations, the modelling of the scheme is also said to indicate significant queuing if the development were successful, and would impact operations of local businesses and institutions, as well as potential to harm highway safety.
