Barratt Developments has announced that their 100-home development in collaboration with David Wilson Homes on land North East of Gleneagles Way, Hatfield Peverel has had its Reserved Matters application unanimously approved by Braintree Planning Committee in February 2021.

The outline planning application originally encountered significant complications. The Secretary of State called in the case as part of the site was safeguarded in order to accommodate the future widening of the A12.

Despite this, Barratt’s collaborative work with the local authorities and parish council resulted in an acceptable workaround being proposed. MPC, appointed to assist with political and community engagement, worked with the project team to ensure that the scheme was subject to robust pre-submission consultation, involving residents and stakeholders. An online consultation portal was accessible throughout the consultation which was updated as the application progressed. A newsletter was also distributed to residents surrounding the site which encouraged them to give their feedback on the detailed proposals. Publicised on the newsletter and website was a Freephone line and Freepost address which allowed residents to write or phone in to give their feedback on the proposals.

The project team for the development included Savills, JCN Design and Planning, Liz Lake Associates, Robert West, MPC, Southern Ecological Solutions, 24 Acoustics Ltd and MLM Group.
