Councillors have approved plans for Basingstoke’s first Build-to-Rent scheme.
Packaged Living and Buccleuch Property’s plan to demolish vacant View Point at Basing View and build 326 apartments, was voted through at Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council’s development management committee on May 28.
The existing building was described in the application as a ‘1970s precast concrete brutalist office building’ (see image below).
Councillors voiced concerns over parking, lack of affordable homes and waste collection.
Mark Taylor, chief operating office for Packaged Living, told the meeting: “We aren’t a developer that will build this and leave it, we are long term investors and, with this application, we are making a long-term commitment to Basingstoke.”
