Residents in Church End and Roundwood are being asked for their views on designs for a £3 million project to improve the look and feel of the area.
This is a ring-fenced fund that can only be spent on infrastructure, ensuring it is dedicated to projects that benefit the community.
As part of the Council’s Green Neighbourhoods initiative, this ambitious project, delivered in partnership with Steer and MP Smarter Travel (MPST), seeks to transform the area into a model for environmental sustainability. Known as ‘Green Corridors,’ the improvements will be rolled out in phases, focusing on better walking and cycling access, cleaner air, increased safety, and overall community wellbeing.
Residents, businesses, and commuters in Church End and Roundwood are invited to share their views on plans to enhance walking, wheeling, cycling, safety, and inclusivity along Church Path and Longstone Avenue.
Work on the project’s first phase will focus on Church Path and Longstone Avenue, with completion expected by Spring 2026. The online consultation will run from July 7 to August 3, with drop-in engagement events scheduled for July 15 and 30.
Church Path will be transformed into a green corridor with landscaping, improved paths, and upgraded crossings, providing safer and more environmentally friendly routes for pedestrians and cyclists.
Longstone Avenue will receive a fresh look with new zebra crossings and landscaping. There will also be landscaping improvements at Longstone Avenue Open Space and Roundwood Park Annexe.
Cllr Jake Rubin, cabinet member for climate action and community power, said;
“This is a hugely exciting project that is intended to enhance residents’ quality of life through improved walking and cycling infrastructure, boosting biodiversity and delivering safer, more inclusive streets for the future.”
