Councillors have approved relocating memorials commemorating both world wars to a new location, Sands End Square, within the King’s Road Park development, Fulham.

The memorials are for the former employees of the gasworks who fell in both World Wars.

The proposal is to demolish the existing modern brick plinth of the Second World War memorial and salvage the Second World War memorial plaque and surrounding. The erection of a new stone plinth for the display of the salvaged Second World War memorial plaque and surround in a new location within a public space in the Fulham Gasworks site, including the reassembly of the dismantled Grade II listed First World War memorial in a new location within a public space in the Fulham Gasworks site.

The development on the former site of the Fulham Gasworks just off the King’s Road is for 1,800 residential units, a public park and many amenities. Phase one is complete and occupied, and the remaining phases are underway.

The site has retained several heritage assets, and the proposal is to create a memorial garden with formal planting.
