A document, designed to allocate sites for more than 1,200 homes in South Norfolk, goes before councillors next month.

South Norfolk Council’s Village Cluster Housing Allocation Plan has been agreed by the council’s cabinet and will now go before the full council on July 24 to seek to get approval for the document to be submitted to the Secretary of State.

The plan is part of the Greater Norwich Local Plan and, if approved, will be a key new Local Plan document, allocating sites where the homes can go in villages across the district.

The villages and parishes have been divided into 48 clusters, largely based on primary school catchment areas and factors including access to local services and facilities, the suitability of local roads and the risk of flooding. It will help decide where development should go.

Most sites will accommodate between 12 and 50 homes due to the rural nature of the area. Larger sites have been proposed if they offer opportunities for particular benefits, not possible on smaller sites.

In total the Village Clusters Housing Allocations Plan allocates 58 sites for development out of around 500 that were put forward, some of which were originally submitted for consideration as part of work to produce the Greater Norwich Local Plan.

If approved by full council the authority hopes the planning inspector’s examination will take place in Autumn.
