The approval of 3,700-home Dunton Hills Garden Village has been welcomed by Essex County Council.

Brentwood Borough Council has given the go ahead to the development, by Commercial Estates Group (CEG), which will also have 55,000 sq m of land for business use. Three neighbourhood centres will also provide local job opportunities.

Dunton Hills aims to meet a range of local community needs and around a third of the new properties are expected to be affordable.

Essex says it will work alongside Brentwood Borough Council and CEG to make sure Dunton Hills meets:

  • Environmental needs such as sustainable homes
  • Economic needs such as employment
  • Social needs, such as amenities
  • The need for sustainable transport choices

Cllr Lee Scott, cabinet member for planning a growing economy, said: “We expect and require high standards in garden communities, and are pleased that Brentwood Council has approved in principle the Dunton Hills Garden Village.

“The garden village will not only address the current and future needs of residents but will set the standard for collaborative efforts in creating sustainable, inclusive housing developments in the future.”
