Plans to demolish Dobbies Garden Centre in Shinfield and rebuild it have been recommended for approval by officers at Wokingham Borough Council (WBC).

WBC’s planning committee will decide the application on May 11. Dobbies wants to replace the current mix of 10,837 sq m of buildings, outdoor space and polytunnels with a new development with 9,507 sq m total sales space.

The new garden centre building will be sited further back than the current main building so that a larger (369-space) car park can be built at the front.

A single house within the 2.95-hectare site will be demolished for the redevelopment.

The team on the scheme includes Avison Young on planning and Mill Architects on design.
