New doubts have been cast over the planned Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital after the Government included it among 25 schemes it will review.
The proposed hospital, initially in the 46, planned in the Conservative Government’s New Hospitals Programme, now faces scrutiny by the Labour Government.
Plans for the hospital were approved by Cambridge City Council in April but, while the funding is now uncertain, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has said early stage work will continue.
A trust spokesperson said: “We are continuing to make significant progress on the programme for Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital, after our outline business case was approved by NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care and HM Treasury last Summer.
“A programme of pre-constructions works are set to begin in the coming months, including the installation of hoardings around the site, ground clearance and archaeological digs.
“Our current schedule means the hospital is on track to be built by 2029.”
