Granta Land, a newly formed strategic land company, has officially launched at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.

More than 100 guests attended the event, marking the debut of a business founded and led by Phil Grant, a recognised name in the land promotion sector. Granta Land enters the market with a clear mandate to promote, plan and develop land across the East of England and beyond and is already promoting nearly 2,000 residential units across a number of sites.

Building on previous leadership experience in strategic land, Phil Grant’s ambition is to establish Granta Land as a ‘significant force in the sector’. Despite being newly formed, the business is underpinned by a team and shareholder group with substantial pedigree in real estate and land promotion.

The company has assembled a group of investors and advisors, including Roger and Ted Orf, alongside Grant Richardson on behalf of Simarc Property Management. In February, Matt Hare joined as planning director, having previously held roles at Axis Land Partnerships, Carter Jonas and South Cambridgeshire District Council.

Guests gathered among the museum’s collections as cocktails and conversation reflected on the opportunities within the strategic land market. While acknowledging the challenges of the current economic climate, attendees discussed the growing importance of experienced operators in unlocking land for development.

Based in Cambridge and working across the UK, Granta Land aims to combine local knowledge with national reach.

Phil Grant, chief executive at Granta Land, said: “While the market presents its challenges, it also creates real opportunity for experienced operators. At Granta Land, we’re focused on taking a long-term view of promoting land responsibly, working closely with stakeholders and unlocking sites that can deliver growth across the region.”

The company’s name reflects both its roots and its outlook. The River Granta, the historic name for the upper reaches of the River Cam, provides a strong connection to Cambridge, where the business is based. The team at Granta Land each share long-standing personal and professional ties to the city, whether through living, working, studying or family connections.

The launch signals the arrival of a new entrant with both depth of experience and clarity of purpose, combining strong regional roots with a forward-looking approach to growth and delivery.
