H&F set to lead London on EV charging points

Hammersmith & Fulham Council (H&F) is set to deliver hundreds more lamppost chargers for electric vehicles to create the largest network in London.

These new charging points, an investment of more than £5million, will swell H&F’s ever-growing network of electric vehicle charging points to more than 3,000 by March next year.

“We’ve led Britain by installing these charge points as we encourage the shift to electric vehicles, cleaner air and a greener environment”, said Cllr Stephen Cowan, leader of the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.

“If you buy a new car, please make it an electric one.”

Now, the focus is on growing it’s infrastructure quickly enough to meet the demand for on-street charging. H&F already has the highest density of electric vehicle charging points anywhere in the UK .

With the number of lamppost chargers bound to triple in the next 12 months, H&F is solidifying its status as London’s leading borough for e-charging infrastructure.

Operated by Ubitricity and SureCharge, the popular lamppost chargers offer an affordable and convenient charging solution for EV owners with no access to off-street charging facilities of their own.

By providing the necessary EV infrastructure, H&F is empowering residents to make more sustainable travel choices to improve their own health and well-being as well as local air quality.

The speedy expansion of H&F’s lamp column charge point network will complement the council’s many other EV initiatives, including its pioneering resident-led charge point rollout strategy to reflect local demand.

In 2019, H&F Council declared a climate and ecological emergency. To tackle this issue locally, they’re doing everything they can do improve the local environment for future generations and become carbon net-zero by 2030.

Road transport in H&F accounts for 16 per cent of local emissions. Alongside more walking, cycling and public transport, H&F believe electric vehicles are a vital part of the future of travel. They are better for the planet as they radically cut carbon emissions and help improve local air quality.
