Jansons Property is considering its options after plans for a Lidl and 43 homes in Lower Earley were rejected by councillors in Wokingham.
Wokingham Borough Council’s planning committee turned down the application which had faced opposition from some local residents who wanted the site to remain undeveloped.
Andy Jansons, managing director of Janson Property, spoke at the meeting and requested a deferral but the plan was unanimously rejected.
He said afterwards: “Whilst we are disappointed with last night’s decision, we are pleased that both planning officers and councillors acknowledged our plans have the potential to deliver significant economic benefits, and that the identified technical issues could easily be addressed as part of the appeal process.
“We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the 600-plus local residents who wrote in support of our plans.
“We will now take time to review and reflect on the decision, before deciding on our next steps.”
