Councillors in Wokingham look set to approve plans for a massive solar farm at Barkham.

Wokingham Borough Council’s planning committee meets on September 8 to discuss the council’s own plans for a 52-hectare solar farm on land it owns at Barkham including High Barn Farm and parts of Brook Farm and Rooks Nest Farm.

The development, for a temporary period of 25 years, will involve 67,340 photovoltaic panels, a substation building, fencing and underground cabling to the Electricity Distribution Centre. The plans, drawn up by WSP, also include 10,947 trees planted on 2.9 hectares of the land.

A 5.5-hectare section of the land will be retained for an existing tenant farmer.

Officers have recommended approval for the application subject to whether the scheme is called in by the Secretary of State.
