Lidl GB has announced that its new Fulham store has entered the final stages of development as fit-out works get underway.

The store on North End Road is due to open this Summer following a multi-million-pound investment into the area.

The store will create up to 40 new jobs and feature the much-loved Lidl bakery. It was recently crowned the most popular supermarket bakery in the UK, with a market share of 18.2 per cent, beating Tesco and Sainsbury.

Grant Shulton, regional head of property for Lidl GB, commented: “After all the support we’ve received from members of the community, it’s exciting to be able to share that we are one step closer to opening the doors to our Fulham store.

“We have a clear commitment to providing shoppers with the very best value, and after becoming the third-largest supermarket in London, it really reinforces our dedication to ensuring that everyone can eat affordable, high-quality food, no matter where they live.”

The update comes as Lidl continues to experience record growth as more and more people choose to shop with the discounter, making it the fastest-growing brick-and-mortar supermarket for seven months in a row. Last year, Lidl also announced a market share high of 9.1 per cent in the capital after overtaking Asda as the third-largest supermarket in London. With its market share doubling that of any other discounter, Lidl’s growth forms part of its £500m investment in London.

The discounter’s success comes as no surprise. Lidl was named the cheapest supermarket by The Grocer in its latest Super Grocer 33 price comparison, and it has also held the same title with Manchester Evening News for over a year.
