Hammersmith’s Lyric Theatre has secured more than £500,000 in government funding to modernise its backstage facilities, improve sound quality and replace stage lighting with full LED systems.
The £534,227 grant from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s Creative Foundations Fund will support urgent capital work through the theatre’s Light Up The Lyric project, arriving in the venue’s 130th birthday year.
The upgrades are intended to strengthen both the technical and environmental performance of the theatre, helping it continue to stage high-quality productions while reducing energy use. The funding forms part of a wider £30 million pot distributed to 24 museums, libraries and cultural venues across London, aimed at improving infrastructure, rebuilding spaces and upgrading technology.
Executive director Amy Belson welcomed the announcement, saying: “We’re absolutely delighted – it will make a huge impact.”
She also said the changes would help the Lyric continue producing “world class work, both on-stage and off-stage, for years to come.”
Other West London organisations to benefit include Harrow Arts Centre, London Borough of Ealing Libraries, Harrow Libraries and Kiln Theatre.
