A £450 million development at Pinewood Studios has been announced which will include a visitor attraction, new film studios and skills and growth areas for creative firms.

Pinewood Group says the Screen Industries Global Growth Hub which will be called Screen Hub UK, is likely to create around 3,500 jobs, contribute an annual £230m into the economy, and £125m into the tourism industry.

The development earmarked for a 77-acre site to the south of the existing studios will consist of:

  • A 350,000 sq ft visitor attraction called Pinewood Studio Experience
  • New film production facilities
  • A training and skills hub
  • A creative industries business growth hub
  • A green campus

The project is intended to implement proposals in the Government’s sector deals for creative industries and tourism and the Buckinghamshire Local Enterprise Partnership Local Industrial Strategy.

Pinewood Group Chairman Paul Golding said: “The Government and Buckinghamshire LEP have recognised Pinewood Studios as a major economic asset to be enhanced with the creation of a screen growth hub for the UK.

“We are pleased to be able to respond with this scheme.  We have been looking at a visitor experience for some time and feel that now is the right moment to bring it forward.

“The project will strengthen UK film and bring much needed jobs and spending.  We hope our planning application will receive widespread support.”

Pinewood Group is due to start consultation this week ahead of its planning application.
