Merton Council Leader Cllr Ross Garrod has reshuffled his Cabinet, with a stronger focus on housing, regeneration, and homelessness support.
Deputy Leader Cllr Eleanor Stringer will become Cabinet Member for New Homes and Regeneration, leading work to deliver new homes and drive forward the regeneration of Morden town centre. Her role will build on recent progress, including the start of the first council homes in a generation and an initial £30 million investment in Morden.
A new Cabinet post, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness Prevention, has also been created and will be held by Cllr Dan Johnston. He will oversee emergency housing support, homelessness prevention, support for private renters, and the expansion of Selective and Additional Licensing to strengthen controls on HMOs and private rented homes.
Further changes include Cllr Alambritis taking on finance, growth, corporate services, the local economy, planning, and the voluntary sector; Cllr Cooper-Marbiah taking culture; and Cllr Neaverson taking cleaner streets, environment, transport, parks, green spaces, and climate change.
Cllr Andrew Judge will return to the backbenches, with the Leader thanking him for his long service and housing achievements.
Full Council will formally note the changes on 16 September 2026.
