MetroProp Real Estate Ltd working with Hester Architects have submitted plans to Ealing Council for the redevelopment 0F 72-76 Ealing Broadway. The proposal is for the redevelopment of the site to provide 56 flats and 307 sqm commercial floor space on the ground floor (A1 Use Class) accommodated within a part 4 storey, part 5 storey, part 9 storey and part 10 storey building, with associated car parking, amenity space, cycle and refuse storage provision (following demolition of buildings on-site).
The proposed development involves the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of a part 4, part 5, part 9 and part 10 storey building, to accommodate 4 commercial units on the ground floor facing Broadway and 56 units over 9 floors. The application site has been designated within the EAL15 Development Site as it presents an opportunity to intensify and diversify uses on a large site within a well-connected, Town Centre location.
The existing buildings are described as a monotonous and monolithic terrace that provides a little contribution to the vitality of West Ealing and poorly reflects the interesting variations in built form and height in the street scene. Redevelopment of the site would therefore enable a replacement building that make better use of the site, provides much needed housing for the Borough and improves the character and appearance of the street scene.
The proposal was recommended for approval at the meeting in November 2020.
