More than 100 homes were let using video viewings during lockdowns by Reading estate agent Haslams.
Managing director Steve Woodford told UK Property Forums managing director Matthew Battle in the latest Ask the Expert video, available exclusively to UK Prop Social members, the success was one of a number of surprises he found during the difficulties of 2020 and 2021.
Mr Woodford said: “One of the most fascinating things for me is that when we locked down first in March, if you’d said to us ‘virtual viewings’ we’d have pooh-poohed it.
“But we have literally let, since then, 120 – 130 units from video.”
He said those viewings include WhatsApp videos and videos made by existing tenants under instructions from Haslams.
Other surprises included the size of deposits first time buyers were able to save during furloughed periods.
He also discussed Station Hill and the pipeline of consented residential property schemes across Reading.
Unknowns he talked about included how the Reading market will react to its first Build-to-Rent development by Lochailort at Thames Quarter and what rents can be supported from it and future schemes of its kind.
