Richmond Council is set to revamp its planning system starting Wednesday, 29 January 2025, which could impact property professionals dealing with planning, building control, local land charges, and tree applications.

This crucial upgrade, expected to be completed by Thursday, 6 February 2025, aims to address the increasing demand for digital efficiency and user-friendliness.

During this period, key services will face disruptions. Planning applications cannot be viewed, searched, or commented on, although submissions are still possible via the Planning Portal. However, these will remain unprocessed until the update concludes. For those with ongoing applications, rest assured that your data will transfer seamlessly to the new system.

Building control applications submitted during this time will also experience a delay, except for site visit requests, which continue as usual. Local land charges search requests must be submitted before 5pm on Friday, 24 January 2025, as the service will pause during the transition.

The upgrade brings several beneficial changes. Notably, the new system allows larger document submissions—beyond the previous 4,000-character limit—and enables users to upload images, enhancing application clarity. While the interface remains familiar, improved filtering and viewing options promise a streamlined experience.

Feedback on the revamped system is encouraged once operational, with suggestions directed to citizensportal@richmond.gov.uk. Property professionals can subscribe to updates on planning and other services to stay informed during this transition. Usres understanding and cooperation during these updates are highly appreciated as Richmond strives for a more efficient service.
