Kingston Council’s Planning Committee has approved a new Safestore Storage facility on Manorgate Road.

This decision marks a significant development for the area, as the site, previously occupied by Minatol, will transform. The existing buildings, which have been partly vacant or on short-term lets, will be demolished to make way for a modern Class B8 self-storage facility.

The proposed facility will feature a four-level building with a hexagonal footprint, reaching a maximum height of 12.3 meters. The design includes a recessed upper level stepped in at the roof by 2.5 meters on the north and east sides and 5.0 meters on the west. This redevelopment aims to enhance the site’s utility while respecting the surrounding residential and conservation areas.

Located within a mixed-use area, the site benefits from good public transport accessibility, with a PTAL rating of four. It is also near a Home Zone, promoting reduced car speeds and improved public spaces. The development will include access, car parking, and landscaping, ensuring it integrates well with the local environment. This project represents a strategic move to optimise the site’s potential, providing valuable storage solutions for the community.
