Construction is now underway on six council homes on a disused garage site in Stanford-Le-Hope.
The development in Lyndhurst Road, carried out by contractor Auburn Group, will provide six council homes, with private gardens and public green space.
Another disused garage site, at Vigerons Way, Chadwell St Mary, is also being utilised to provide new council homes.
The homes on Lyndhurst Road are expected to be ready by summer 2027.

Cllr Rob Willoughby, portfolio holder for adult health and housing services at Thurrock Council said: “This [is an] excellent example of taking underused council land and using it to provide quality family council homes which will be for local people.”
