An event to mark the start of construction on a landmark residential development at the former Citroen garage site in Brentford, West London, took place on Thursday, 1st December. This extensive regeneration scheme is a joint venture partnership between award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group and charitable housing association L&Q.

The scheme, once complete, will deliver 441 much-needed homes for the area, fifty per cent of which will be available through Shared Ownership and Affordable Rent.

At the event, senior local authority officials, including Hounslow council leader Shantanu Rajawat, Mayor of Hounslow Councillor Raghwinder Siddhu, Hounslow ceo Niall Bolger, Councillor Tom Bruce (cabinet member for Regeneration and Development), and Councillor Katherine Dunne (deputy leader and cabinet member for Climate, Environment and Transport Strategy), joined senior directors from Hill and L&Q to celebrate the start of construction.

Situated in a prime location minutes from Kew Bridge, the regeneration of the Citroen site is a continuation of The Hill Group and L&Q’s successful track record of delivering high-quality residential developments, including New Union Wharf in London’s Docklands.

Speaking about the development of the Citroen site during the groundbreaking event, Hounslow council leader Shantanu Rajawat commented: “Well-designed new housing is vital to the ongoing regeneration of Hounslow, and so I am very excited to see work underway at this important strategic site. We are impressed with the master plan presented by The Hill Group and L&Q and look forward to seeing the plans come to fruition over the coming years.”

The Citroen site will comprise five buildings of up to 18 storeys, and planned amenities include a residents’ gym, a nursery, and a new public square. The development will consist of an array of energy efficiency features, including air source heat pumps to reduce carbon emissions and charging points for residents using electric vehicles. Hill will also utilise off-site production to manufacture and fit MMC (modern construction methods) bathroom pods throughout the development, the first of which was displayed at the event.

Andy Fancy, managing director at The Hill Group, comments: “Today marks a significant milestone as we break ground for the delivery of this impressive new development. The Hill Group, L&Q and Hounslow Council have a shared vision for how the Citroen site regeneration will revitalise this area in West London. We have a strong track record of delivering high-quality, transformative projects, and look forward to combining our expertise to create a thriving new community with our like-minded partner L&Q, with whom we share a strong commitment to building excellence.

Vicky Savage, executive group director of Development and Sales at L&Q, comments: “Today’s groundbreaking ceremony marks the first step on an exciting journey for Hounslow. We firmly believe that the new development will make a wonderful addition to Brentford by revitalising a brownfield site into a brand-new neighbourhood of much-needed affordable homes and impressive new amenities. London urgently needs new and affordable homes, and this project will make an important contribution to helping local housing need whilst investing in significant employment, training and community focussed opportunities during construction.”
