The Watermark, an integrated retirement community located on Melliss Avenue, Kew, Richmond, has reached a significant milestone with the ‘topping out’ of its new building.
Developed by Elysian Residences in partnership with Octopus Capital and Pension Insurance Corporation plc (PIC), the project celebrated this achievement with a ceremony attended by key stakeholders.
The Watermark will offer 88 retirement apartments, a guest suite, and communal facilities, including a gym, swimming pool, library, and two restaurants, fostering a vibrant community focused on wellbeing and engagement.
The development, built by McAleer & Rushe and designed by Collado Collins, is strategically positioned to maximise its riverside location. Macfarlane + Associates, a specialist placemaking agency, will create a sustainable landscape that integrates with the architecture while preserving mature trees and shrubs along the riverside path.
Gavin Stein, chief executive officer of Elysian Residences, emphasised the project’s unique setting near Kew Gardens, stating, “Topping out at The Watermark marks an important milestone for this project. This is a rare riverside setting, close to Kew Gardens and the village. Our focus has been on creating well-designed homes, supported by exceptional service, shared spaces, and carefully considered amenities.”
Patrick Coyle, project director at McAleer & Rushe, highlighted the collaboration between the project team and stakeholders to deliver high-quality development that positively impacts the local Kew community. The project is expected to be completed by Spring 2027.
Max Cawthorn, head of PIC Capital Strategy, noted the importance of local engagement and the development’s long-lasting positive impact on future homeowners and the community. He stated, “To maximise positive outcomes, we are engaging with local residents and primary schools, aiming to deliver benefits to every part of the community. Social value is a core principle of PIC’s investment strategy.”
The Watermark reflects Elysian Residences’ philosophy that life should remain fulfilling and engaging as people age, allowing residents to live on their terms in private homes.
The project is funded by Senior Living Investment Partners, a collaboration between PIC and Octopus Capital. For more information, interested parties can contact Elysian Residences or visit thewatermarkkew.com.
