The Tooting Triangle, a unique area within Tooting Common, is transforming with the launch of a new online engagement hub.
This initiative invites the community to help shape the future of the space, which includes facilities like a playground, football pitch, boxing club, and community garden. Since 2020, the council has collaborated with residents and stakeholders to enhance the area, engaging over 200 people in the “Our Triangle Time” consultation.
Based on feedback, proposed improvements aim to reduce flooding, upgrade play facilities, brighten railway bridges, and improve the football pitch. The engagement hub, launched on September 6, offers updates on future projects, such as enhancements to the boxing club, community garden, railway underpasses, and the former One O’Clock Club.
Paul White, cabinet member for environment, emphasised the importance of community involvement, stating, “Tooting Triangle is a special place for many people, whether you come here to play, train, relax or connect with nature. This is your opportunity to shape how it evolves.”
Proposed works include repairing the all-weather football pitch to extend its lifespan and improve safety, with work starting in Autumn 2025. There will also be investment in flood mitigation, playground consultations as part of Wandsworth’s Year of Play, and improvements to railway underpasses inspired by the Falcon Road transformation. Upgrades to the Balham Boxing Club and revitalisation of the community garden are also planned.
The Transforming Tooting Triangle programme builds on the success of the “Our Triangle Time” engagement process from December 2024, which highlighted the need to address flooding, accessibility, and infrastructure. Residents are encouraged to visit the engagement hub to explore proposals, share views, and sign up for updates, playing a crucial role in the transformation.
