Twyford Abbey in Acton has reached a major milestone as work continues on a major redevelopment that will deliver 296 new homes alongside new public amenities.
A topping-out ceremony marked the highest point of the new buildings. The homes are being built by Latimer, Clarion Housing Group’s development arm, within the abbey grounds.
Of the total, 70 will be let at social rent by Clarion, and 68 will be offered through shared ownership, supporting access to affordable housing. The council said the scheme reflects both direct housing delivery and the use of planning powers to secure affordable homes in private developments.
The new properties, ranging from one to three bedrooms, are due for completion in spring 2028.
Alongside the housing, the project will restore the abbey itself and open up the south lawn, which is about the size of 16 tennis courts, as a public park for the first time in over 30 years.
The scheme also includes children’s play areas, community growing gardens, an orchard, 157 new trees, and improved walking and cycling routes.
Council leaders welcomed the project as an important step for housing, heritage, and public green space in the borough.
