Albion Land has submitted plans for 600 homes and an 85-acre public park next to Graven Hill.
The hybrid application to Cherwell District Council seeks outline permission for the homes and full permission for the park on a 160-acre site off the A41. Pedestrian and cycle routes will be created between Bicester and Ambrosden and onwards to nearby villages including Launton, Wendlebury and Chesterton .
Albion Land says the proposals – Alchester Parklands – include a commitment to a green wedge to help ensure Ambrosden and Bicester remain distinct and separate, and that Ambrosden does not become part of a ‘greater Bicester’ as the town grows.
Existing woodland will be retained to help screen future large-scale commercial development which has already been allowed at Graven Hill, and there will be allotments alongside the new housing.
Simon Parsons, director for Albion Land, said: “We all know that the best places to live combine a good home, access to green space, and connections to the places you need to get to. Our proposals for Alchester Parklands will do exactly that and the opportunity to give over 85 acres for new public open spaces is something we and our design team are really proud of.
“These are exciting proposals to provide the homes people need in Cherwell and, in doing so, to provide so much more for existing residents of both Bicester and Ambrosden.”
The proposed Alchester Parklands site is bounded by Graven Hill to the west and the Ploughley Road to the east. A significant part of the site was formerly a poultry farm.
The two principal access points for cars to the site will be via Expeditionary Road (the first phase of the Bicester South East Perimeter Road) coming off the new roundabout on the A41 and via the existing farm access from Ploughley Road which will be upgraded.
Cycle and footpaths will crisscross the site and link into the overall network to access Bicester town centre.
Albion Land says if the scheme is approved, it hopes to see phased construction start as soon as possible. The parkland is expected to be delivered in the early phases.
