London Square has partnered with Wandle Housing Association to develop affordable homes for social rent at the historic County Hall Kingston in South West London.
The 5.2-acre site, acquired by London Square in 2024, includes the Grade II listed former Surrey County Council headquarters. The redevelopment will feature 292 new homes, with 26 designated for social rent, alongside extensive landscaping, green spaces, and 47,500 sq ft of commercial space. Restoration and construction are underway to refurbish County Hall and deliver new-build elements.
Kingston, located in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, is known for its vibrant market scene, rich history, and proximity to London’s natural attractions. Central London is just 30 minutes away, offering easy access to the city’s energy.
Wandle Housing, established in 1967, manages over 7,000 homes across nine South London boroughs.
Adam Lawrence, chief executive officer of London Square, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This historic site has stood empty for many years and it’s fantastic to take another step forward in the re-opening this important space for the local community.”
Anne Waterhouse, chief executive of Wandle, highlighted the opportunity to increase their community presence and provide much-needed social rent homes in Kingston.
