Wandsworth Council approved the resubmission for 5 Beechcroft Road, SW17 7BU, replacing the existing vacant former day centre with a new mixed-use development.
The scheme proposes demolishing the current single-storey U-shaped building and erecting a part two-storey, part three-storey block containing eight flats: 1 studio, 3 one-bedroom, 4 two-bedroom and 1 three-bedroom unit, each with balconies.
Part of the ground floor would be retained for community use (Class F2). The 0.037ha site lies on the south-western side of Beechcroft Road, opposite two-storey homes, beside commercial-and-residential properties on Upper Tooting Road, and near St Peter’s Church and Hall; the rear gardens of nearby Grade II listed houses are also close by.
This application follows an earlier consent, Ref. 2023/1508, for seven flats and community space, granted on 15 December 2023 and still implementable until 15 December 2026. The new proposal increases residential numbers by one and revises the housing mix and building form.
Planning permission for application 2026/1002 was granted unanimously, subject to the report and late correspondence updates. The decision noted that no objection issues were raised in committee, and members supported the amended design and additional home, while retaining community floor space and respecting the overall sensitivity of the nearby heritage context.
