The List of Locally Listed Heritage Assets or ‘Local List’ recognises buildings and features of local historic or architectural interest, such as buildings, structures, gardens and landscapes.
The Local List features detailed assessments that provide a clear description and explanation of each asset’s significance.
During the six-week public consultation that began in October 2024, the council received 60 additional suggestions for buildings and features. These nominations will be considered as part of a rolling programme to ensure the Local List, operating as a ‘living document’, continues to evolve and reflect the borough’s heritage.
Now adopted, the Local List will be treated as a material consideration in planning decisions, ensuring that listed assets are recognised adequately during the planning application process.
Cllr Louise Morales, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning, said:
“Our borough is rich in heritage, both in the built and natural environment, and the Local List celebrates the assets that shape the borough’s identity.
“I’m grateful to everyone who contributed thoughtful comments and local knowledge.
“Adopting the updated List enables us to recognise and protect what matters to our communities while making balanced, well‑informed planning decisions for the future.”
