Plans for 225 homes go before councillors on Wednesday (May 14) with a recommendation for approval.

The Royal Borough’s Maidenhead development control panel will discuss Taylor Wimpey’s plans for full planning permission to develop a 6.47-hectare site south of Kimbers Lane. The site comprises three open fields but is not in the Green Belt.

It is directly to the west of a previously-approved Taylor Wimpey scheme of 215 homes and is part of a wider 90-hectare allocation of 2,600 homes, schools, public open space, sports pitches and a local centre

Of the 225 homes, 68 (30 per cent) will be affordable and there will be eight custom-built homes.

Taylor Wimpey proposes a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties including apartments, terraced, semi-detached and detached houses.

The application’s design & access statement concludes: “The scheme has been assessed against all relevant national and local planning policy and guidance with all other material considerations and is the result of pre-application discussions with the local community and Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead planning officers.

“It is considered that all pre-application requirements have been met in full and that the design solution is appropriate, reflecting a high-quality residential development within Maidenhead.

“The scheme will contribute towards meeting the pressing housing need in both the town and the borough; in line with local and national policy aspirations.

“The proposal is considered to provide for a sustainable, high quality design, adding visual interest to the local area and providing for a sustainable form of development.

“The scheme pays reference to local vernacular, creating high quality and thoughtfully designed dwellings.”

The team on the project includes Savills on planning, ECE on architecture and Stuart Michael Associates on transport.
