A scheme of 61 homes in Oxford is likely to be 100 per cent affordable.

Oxford City Council approved plans for a 51-home scheme in the site of Northfield Hostel in Littlemore in March 2022 but now expects to acquire a neighbouring sports field from the county council which has permission for a further 10.

The city council’s cabinet is likely to approve the acquisition on Wednesday, August 9. Demolition of Northfield Hostel, a special school which closed in 2014, is expected to start in October.

The council’s housing company OX Place will deliver the additional six three-bedroom and four four-bedroom homes.

Cllr Linda Smith, cabinet member for housing, said: “We’re already delivering 51 affordable homes at Northfield Hostel and demolition of the building should begin in the next few months. We now have the opportunity to build 10 more affordable homes by buying the disused sports field next door and I’m looking forward to OX Place delivering this project for the council.”

At the same meeting the council is set to nod through a request to proceed with a scheme for 31 affordable homes at Bertie Place.
