Hampton Care Home’s plans to convert the Hampton Police Station in Station Road into a care home for 22 residents go before councillors on April 21 with a recommendation for approval.

Officers at the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames gave it their support despite a shortfall in affordable housing provision and no alternative business use being sought. The scheme involves a developer contribution of £175,185.

The proposal is to retain and refurbish the former police station building with partial demolition of the rear wings and ancillary buildings.

A three-storey side and rear extension with basement will be added to accommodate a total of 22 care suites and 66 care bed units. There will be shared facilities, car and cycle parking and landscaping. The main objections to the scheme relate to a shortage of off-road car parking spaces.

The planning committee meets at 7pm.
