Richmond residents are invited to have their say on the newly published Conservation Area Appraisals following the Council’s borough-wide review of existing Conservation Area Appraisals to ensure they reflect the current character and appearance of local areas.

Conservation Areas are areas of particular architectural and historical interest whose character and appearance are worthy of preserving or enhancing. This character is derived from the area rather than the quality of specific buildings or features.

The new appraisal and Management Plan, upon adoption, will guide planning applicants, developers and architects if building works are proposed that require planning permission and will provide a sound basis for decisions made by the Council on planning applications and other proposals. 

The following conservation areas have been reviewed, and updated draft Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans have been produced for:

  • Hampton Hill High Street 
  • Teddington Lock
  • High Street Teddington

In addition to the draft Appraisals, three new buildings and structures are proposed to be added to the local list of Buildings of Townscape Merit (BTM), all of which are in the High Street Hampton Hill Conservation Area.

A locally listed building (also known as a Building of Townscape Merit) is a building or structure which is not statutorily listed but is recognised for its significance to the history and character of the local environment. 

Reference copies of the consultation documents are available at the Civic Centre and in Hampton Hill and Teddington libraries. 

The consultation will run from Monday 20 June to Friday 22 July 2022.
