Fastned and Places for London have secured planning approval for what is set to become London’s largest ultra-rapid EV charging hub, located at Hanger Lane in Ealing.

Opening early next year, the site will play a major role in expanding the Capital’s public charging network and supporting the shift to zero-emission transport.

The hub will be powered entirely by renewable energy and will include 36 charging bays, enabling up to 100 miles of range in about 5 minutes. Positioned off the North Circular near a major transport route, it is expected to serve hundreds of drivers each day, including commuters, local residents, taxis, private hire vehicles, vans and smaller trucks.

Alongside charging, the site will offer a retail space, restrooms, benches and a playground, creating a more welcoming environment for both drivers and nearby families. Fastned’s solar canopies, lighting and CCTV are designed to improve comfort, safety and usability in all weather conditions.

The project addresses the challenges of London’s limited off-street parking, especially in outer boroughs, where many households rely on public charging. It also aims to support businesses and fleets transitioning to electric vehicles, particularly those based near Park Royal industrial estate. During construction, the partnership plans to provide work experience placements, apprenticeships, employment opportunities and community outreach to help build local skills and create pathways into the growing EV sector.

Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy Mete Coban welcomed the announcement, saying: “This new, rapid charging hub, the largest in London, will support hundreds of Londoners who have already made the transition to electric vehicles.”

The Hanger Lane site is the second hub developed by Fastned and Places for London, and forms part of a wider ambition to deliver 25 sites across London by 2030, including locations such as Hatton Cross, Canning Town, Tottenham Hale and East Finchley.
