ABYSS Brewing is proposing a new independent venue, ABYSS Brighton, at 47 Trafalgar Street in the centre of Brighton, with an intended opening in autumn 2026, subject to planning approval.
The plan is to create a welcoming space that combines independent food concepts with a broad drinks offer, including ABYSS beers, collaborative brews, local wines, and low- and no-alcohol options. The venue will also host events, creative activity, collaborations, and private hire, aiming to provide a lively but intimate setting where visitors can either join the energy or find a quieter corner.
The proposal builds on ABYSS’s wider background as a Sussex brewery founded by Andrew Mellor and Andy Bridge. The business began in the basement of a pub, where early beer experiments developed into a distinctive core range that earned a strong following. Since then, ABYSS has become a recognised name in the independent beer and hospitality scene, with a successful taproom in Lewes, a summer popup in Newhaven, and a reputation for bold beers and art-led design.
Food has also long been important to the brewery’s identity, shaped by travel, discovery, and a desire to explore new ideas. ABYSS Brighton is described as the first full expression of that food-and-drink vision, designed to reflect the company’s collaborative spirit and its ties to the local creative community.
In its 10th anniversary year, the brewery says the new venue will add to Brighton’s independent scene rather than duplicate it, offering another space for community, creativity, and hospitality.
