Mole Valley District Council has approved MAA’s proposal for a new Westcott Community Hall and nine new homes across two village sites in Westcott, Surrey.

The scheme will replace the existing village hall on Institute Road with a modern community building, and will redevelop the former Hut site on Furlong Road to provide 9 2- and 3-bedroom family houses, with associated access, parking, and landscaping.

MAA worked closely with the Westcott Village Hall Trust and the wider consultant team to shape the brief and develop the project through a strong community-led process. The team presented several design options to residents, and more than 250 people attended the consultations. Feedback from the community strongly supported one preferred combination, which informed the pre-application submission and the final scheme.

The approved community hall will provide a double-height main hall, generous reception and breakout space, dual-access servers, a mezzanine with a gallery area, and smaller meeting rooms to broaden the range of uses. The existing car parking and access arrangements on the hall site are retained to reflect the needs of nearby residents.

The nine new homes on the second site were also shaped by consultation and are intended to help fund the new hall through enabling development. The scheme retains on-street parking for the community and introduces a pavement within the site boundary to improve pedestrian safety.

The Westcott Village Association has also confirmed its support, stating that the proposal aligns with the Westcott Neighbourhood Development Plan and will enhance community facilities, replace a building at the end of its useful life, and deliver much-needed housing in the heart of the village.

Overall, the approval creates a long-term community asset while securing new family homes and supporting Westcott’s future.
