Twickenham Riverside shows visible progress

Twickenham Riverside’s long-running redevelopment is now visibly advancing, with major construction moving into a new phase across the site.

The substructure has been completed, superstructure works are underway, precast columns are being installed, and the first sections of riverside bleacher seating have been cast. Two new buildings are also progressing, while new river defences are taking shape to strengthen the frontage and improve future access to the Thames.

At the Water Lane building, construction has reached the second floor after completion of the first-floor slab, columns and lift core. The Wharf Lane building has completed its basement and ground-floor structures, creating momentum for the next stage. Councillor Jim Millard said the project is becoming easier to see and understand on the ground, calling it “an exciting milestone” for residents who have followed the scheme. He added that the redevelopment will deliver “new public spaces, better access to the River Thames, independent shops and businesses, and 45 new homes, half of them affordable.”

The council says the scheme is designed to create a riverside that feels open and community-focused, while also supporting housing need and local regeneration. A recent on-site community event drew around 170 people, including residents, business representatives, councillors, contractors and the project team, giving them a chance to view progress, ask questions and share feedback directly.

Overall, the project is moving steadily toward a more accessible and active riverside destination.
