Woodhatch Place in Reigate has been recommended as East Surrey Council’s preferred main office from 1 April 2027.

If the East Surrey Shadow Executive approves it on 14 September, the move would provide a practical short-term base so the new council can begin operating effectively, maintain service continuity, and support staff with flexible workspace from day one.

The recommendation is intended as an interim solution while longer-term plans for council offices and buildings across East Surrey are developed. Residents would still be able to access council services locally, with existing council offices remaining open for enquiries and support. Online and telephone services would also continue, so access to services should not change for communities across the area.

Councillor Steve Wotton said the decision is about ensuring the new council has suitable facilities to deliver services without disruption. He described Woodhatch Place as a cost-effective administrative base that also allows time to decide on future arrangements for council buildings.

The choice followed an assessment of several council-owned buildings against criteria such as accessibility, transport links, chamber and office capacity, value for money, IT infrastructure, and parking. Woodhatch Place was judged the best fit for the new authority’s operational needs.

The recommendation does not determine future staffing structures or individual work locations. Any workforce changes will be considered separately after 1 April 2027, with staff engagement and consultation where needed. A later report will set out proposals for civic functions, including meeting arrangements.
