Bargate has submitted an outline planning application to Fareham Borough Council for a proposed development in the coastal village of Stubbington, Hampshire.

The 3.7-hectare site, which is located west of Old Street and adjacent to Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve, could deliver 62 thermally efficient homes, alongside a large area of public open space.

40 per cent of the plots are proposed for affordable housing, with an additional 10 per cent designated for self-build/custom-built homes.

The plans for the mixed-tenure development offer a variety of open-market housing options to suit first-time buyers, growing families, and downsizers, with the affordable provision to be delivered for VIVID – a large registered provider operating across the south of England – and the owner of Bargate.

The plans that have been lodged are similar to another application Bargate have made for Medstead, also in the Hampshire area.

All homes will be specified to a high EPC rating and include green technologies as standard, such as PV solar panels, air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points.

The design and layout for the site has been landscape-led from the outset, with substantial advanced planting already having taking place. Over a hectare of the site is to be designated for public open space.

There is also provision for new pedestrian access to be created from Old Street, to serve future residents as well as the wider existing community.

The village of Stubbington lies on the Hampshire coastline, between Southampton and Portsmouth. The site is close to Hill Head Beach and a short drive from larger towns and cities. Stubbington is four miles from Fareham, 12 miles from Portsmouth, and approximately 14 miles from Southampton.

The wider motorway network can be reached via the M27, which leads onto the M3. Fareham train station is nearby, with services to Southampton, Portsmouth and Brighton. Direct trains reach London Waterloo in 1hr 40.

The plans for this proposed scheme follow on from Bargate’s flagship Rivercross development in nearby Warsash. The standout £128m project has delivered 352 eco-focused homes, demonstrating the housebuilder’s commitment to high-quality new communities across the south.

Luke Vallins, head of planning at Bargate, said: “This application sets out our proposals for a landscape-led, unique development that will help to address local housing needs.

“The demand for energy-efficient homes in Stubbington is fuelled by the desirable blend of coastal and countryside living, with convenient access to amenities.

“We have worked alongside Fareham Borough Council for the last seven years to bring this site forward as a sensitively designed development.

“The proposed number of homes has been reduced, boosting the landscaping provision with well over three times the required public open space. We have also drawn up a reconfigured road network and added ‘green links’.

“Our internal team and consultants will continue to work with officers, elected officials and stakeholders as this application progresses through the planning system.”
