Richmond Council is actively expanding its affordable housing pipeline, focusing on high-quality, sustainable housing for residents.
In 2025, the Council will initiate 20 affordable homes at Mereway and Meadows Hall, offering social rent, London Living Rent, and supported living options. Additionally, construction is ongoing for over 200 affordable homes across various sites, including the former Greggs Bakery, Richmond College, and Ham Close regeneration.
The Council’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to address the housing crisis by increasing the availability of genuinely affordable homes and improving the quality of existing housing. The Local Plan emphasises sustainable growth, high-quality design, and social inclusivity, aiming to boost affordable housing delivery.
Councillor Chris Varley, lead member for housing, stated: “Richmond Council continues to play an active role in supporting the diverse needs of our community. Building Foundations for a Fairer Borough is all about making Richmond affordable and ensuring we have accessible housing for every stage of life.”
Richmond Council is leveraging various funding streams and partnerships to maximise housing provision, including developing council-owned sites and acquiring properties for temporary accommodation. The regeneration of Ham Close, led by RHP, will deliver 452 new homes, with all existing social housing re-provided and an additional 78 affordable homes added.
Deputy leader councillor Jim Millard highlighted the Council’s commitment to using every available funding source to increase housing supply. The Council’s dedication to expanding affordable housing ensures residents have access to safe, stable, and well-maintained homes, fostering communities where people can confidently build their lives.
Richmond Council’s ongoing projects and strategic initiatives reflect its commitment to achieving its targets with accessible housing for residents in need.
