Barratt London has donated £1,500 to Daniel’s Den, a Brent-based charity that offers free playgroups and family activities for parents and children.
Founded in 1996 as a small parent-and-toddler group, Daniel’s Den now supports around 1,000 families each year through 12 weekly playgroups and outreach sessions. Its activities give pre-school children a safe place to play, learn and build social skills, while helping parents meet others and form a stronger community network.
The charity is largely run by trained volunteers and received a major boost from the National Lottery Reaching Communities fund in 2019, which helped it expand its services.
Even so, it still depends on donations to continue its work, including support for families seeking asylum. Joanna Gordon, founder and CEO of Daniel’s Den, said the Barratt Foundation’s gift will help extend the charity’s support for family life in Brent and beyond, while also enabling it to train volunteers and raise awareness of the importance of toddler groups as community infrastructure.
Barratt London’s Yolanda Jacob-Foster said Daniel’s Den is central to family wellbeing in Brent and is close to the company’s Wembley Park Gardens development. Barratt London is currently building 302 new apartments there. More information about Daniel’s Den can be found at www.danielsden.org.uk.
