The Berkeley Group is planning to redevelop Hersham Place Technology Park on Molesey Road, Hersham, into a residential area.

The current site, featuring a 190,000 sq ft office and 680 parking spaces, is outdated and will soon be vacant. With changing work patterns and a growing local housing need, the site offers an opportunity to provide new homes. The Berkeley Group aims to work with the community throughout 2025 to develop these proposals.

The site, initially built in the 1970s by Air Products, is now undergoing a transition as the company relocates to a smaller office. The Berkeley Group has already secured prior approval from the council to convert the existing office space into residential use under new Class MA rules. This approval establishes the principle of residential use, paving the way for a high-quality residential development that aligns with local needs.

The redevelopment will utilise the brownfield site to address the significant housing demand in the borough, offering benefits to the Hersham community. The prior approval process allows the project to proceed without needing updates to the outdated Elmbridge Local Plan. The change of use is the initial step in preparing a comprehensive planning application, which The Berkeley Group plans to submit later this year. They are committed to ongoing community consultation to refine the plans and ensure the development meets local expectations.

Overall, the transformation of Hersham Place Technology Park represents a strategic effort to repurpose an underutilised site into a vibrant residential community, addressing both housing needs and community benefits.
