Brent is investing £1.8 million in Church End as part of the Church End Green Corridors Project, aiming to create a greener, safer, and more climate-resilient neighbourhood.
This initiative is part of the broader Investing in Brent programme and is expected to be completed by Spring 2026. The project focuses on environmental action and aims to transform Church Path and Longstone Avenue into inviting, nature-rich areas, with significant resident input.
Key improvements include the complete resurfacing of Church Path to enhance accessibility for walking, wheeling, and cycling. New CCTV columns and upgraded lighting will be installed to deter anti-social behaviour and improve safety, particularly at night. Outdated phone boxes will be removed, and fencing will be upgraded, including along the Peabody Estate, to boost security and aesthetics.
The project will also introduce rain gardens, new planting, pocket parks, and colourful murals co-designed with residents and schools, enhancing biodiversity and community identity. New access points, such as a connection to Beveridge Road, will improve access to parks and key destinations, while new wayfinding signs will help people navigate local routes more easily.
On Longstone Avenue, a new zebra crossing near Newfield Primary School, improved access to Willesden New Cemetery, and street greening will create a safer, more welcoming environment. Cllr Jake Rubin, Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Community Power, highlighted the project as one of Brent’s most exciting climate-positive neighbourhood initiatives and the most significant climate investment since the 2019 climate emergency declaration.
Residents will have opportunities to participate in art workshops and planting days as the project progresses, ensuring the neighbourhood reflects their priorities. Phase 2 of the project, with an additional £2 million investment, is set to begin in 2026 and be completed by Spring 2027.
