Ealing Council Planning Committee has unanimously approved the 116 home Build To Rent (BTR) scheme on the Broadway Southall.

The approved proposal is for the demolition of the existing buildings and redevelopment of the site for a part five, part 17-storey building plus basement, comprising 116 build-to-rent residential units, public house, community space, formation of vehicular access, car and cycle parking; hard and soft landscaping and associated amenity space. Affordable housing makes up 35 per cent of the habitable rooms.

Previously, approval had been given to a 15-storey hotel on the site. The developer, Hamborough Securities Ltd, acquired the site after the submission of the hotel application. Hamborough Securities Ltd advised that no interest was found for a hotel scheme in this location. This is also evidenced by the recent cessation of operations of the Hyatt Place hotel, nearby on Uxbridge Road within Hayes. This has required the developer to revisit the scheme, with BTR projects being an attractive proposition for this site.
